Frequently Asked Questions

Why natural stone?

For its natural beauty and its durability. Every stone is unique and there are a wide variety of colors and patterns to choose from. Natural stone is excellent for outdoor applications as well. The standard thickness is 2cm (3/4 inch) and 3cm (1 ¼ inch).

Does granite stain?

All natural stone is porous to some extent, but properly sealed granite and marble has very little porosity. Our professional installers apply a final seal treatment after every installation is completed. This penetrating sealer will help prevent stains from oil, wine or other liquids from soaking into the surface.

Can I cut on my granite countertop?

Yes, it is safe to cut directly on your granite countertops, although granite is harder than your knives and will dull the cutting edge over time.

Does granite harbor bacteria?

Granite is second only to stainless steel for safety against bacterial contamination. Granite is also less likely to harbor food-borne pathogens after cleaning than synthetic stone.

Does granite harbor harmful bacteria?

Both the Center for Disease Control and The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have found no evidence of this. In fact, in one study sealed granite was shown to be second only to stainless steel for resistance to bacteria.

Do my countertops need to be sealed every year?

On average, and depending on material, you need to reseal every 1-3 years for best results. We have sealer packages that can be purchased with your job order that we will apply upon installation and leave any remaining products for you to reapply later when needed. The instructions are very simple and easy, making the repeat application job for the homeowner a breeze.

This package comes with a quart size sealer appropriate for your material choice and a Revitalizer Cleaner and Protector that continues to protect your stone in-between sealer applications, which prolongs your initial sealer application.
